Welcome to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Vicksburg, Mississippi

We are the oldest Antiochian Orthodox Church in Mississippi, having been established in 1906.  Worldwide, the Orthodox Church is the second largest of all Christian denominations, with over 300 million followers.  Our faith can be traced back to its beginnings during the days of Christ, and has remained unchanged throughout history.  Our parish consists of various ethnic backgrounds and a considerable number of our members are converts to Orthodoxy.  We are a small, warm church community of dedicated Christians, made up of people who care for each other and enjoy working alongside each other on various activities throughout the year.

We invite you to explore St. George through this web site and, more importantly, by actually visiting Divine Liturgy and other services to discover the Faith once delivered by Christ and His Apostles.  Come to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, where we will always welcome you.

Also, please click here to discover more about Orthodox Christianity.

Special Notes:

Due to Kh. Cheryl's recent illness, Fr. John is not attending the Parish Life Conference in New Orleans.  Therefore, all services and activities will take place as usual.  This includes the Ascension Service on Wednesday, June 12, at 6:00PM, as well as Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy as usually scheduled on June 15 and 16.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Kibbee Fundraiser sale a big success.  This is greatly appreciated by our youth who benefit from your help and support!

On Sunday, June 2, we had a memorial dedication to commemorate the heroes from St. George who lost their lives in the service of our country.  Thanks go to everyone who helped make this event so special.  You can click here to see the Saint George Wall of Honor on our web site.

The next Parish Board meeting will be on Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30PM.  Board members will receive a summary of information for activities occuring since the April meeting.  This summary will be submitted for entry into the meeting minutes.

Thanks to all who helped make Holy Bread on April 27 and in the past.  Also, we still need donors for Holy Bread; you can offer to host either Holy Bread, Fellowship, or both.  Contact the St. George office to volunteer.

The Lebanese Dinner was a huge success again this year!  Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a wonderful event.  A recent issue of Bluffs & Bayous magazine has a great featured article about the dinner, written by Ellis Nassour.  It is free and can be found at various local businesses, or can be seen in its entirety by clicking here.

The 2013 Parish Life Conference registration and activities information is available in Baroudy Hall.  You can also go to the Antiochian Events site or to the site of the host parish, St. Basil in New Orleans.

Door locks have been changed and keys are available in the secretary's office.

Father John continues to bless homes and businesses and will be calling those who have signed up in order to schedule dates and times.  Please sign up in Baroudy Hall or the secretary's office if you have not already done so.

We still have a few of the beautiful stained glass "sun catchers" for sale for $20.00 each.  These would make lovely gifts at any time of the year.  See Gregory Thomas if you are interested.

Continue to pray for Fr. John's and Kh. Cheryl's full recovery.  If you can help them in any way, please contact them at their home.  Many thanks to all who have helped!
